Champoeg State Park II
June 7th, 2021

This time we wanted to explore the Riverside (west side of the park).

We stopped by at the Visitor Center (still closed due to pandemic)
Next month might open, I wanted to explore the barn and the kitchen farm.

Easy walk to everywhere

Behind the visitor center

This barn was moved here from the flood of 1861,
the large beam was still the original lumber.

A peek of the history through a barn door.

Manson Farmstead

This was a townsite in its heyday.
The flood of 1861 and the flood of 1890 finally wiped the entire township.

The marker of the street was re-created - DeGRASSE Street
(Corner of Maple Street and DeGrassee Street)

The area once named TCHAMPUICK thus CHAMPOEG

We are now in the Riverside (west side area)

This monument was erected in 1901 to commemorate the first
Provisional Government meeting on May 2nd, 1843,
the first in Pacific Northwest.

Circa 1860's , some 160 years ago.

Champoeg Pioneer Memorial Building.

See the HIGH WATER mark above.

Calm river these days with all the dams, but it is still mighty, the latest flood was 1996
