Beijing Subway
A personal journey

On my last day of vacation in Beijing I tested myself if I could come back to the point where I started by taking the subway on my own. Yes, on my own! Arm with the latest subway map, a cell phone, a hotel business card (in case I get lost, I will take the taxi home by showing the hotel card to the driver) and a lot of travel guts, I began my journey at 7:00 in the morning. I finished the journey some two and a half hours later back to the same spot at a different exit.

Two things that are critical when taking the subway: know the final destination of the train and know how many stops you have to get off and or transfer. Knowing the exits are also helpful, A = Northwest exist, B = Northeast etc. I have taken line 5, 10, 13, 2 and back to line 5 to Dengshikou station.
Follow me!

It's about 7:15 AM when I arrive here from the hotel,
Dengshikou Station Gate "C"

Know the final destination of the subway
and how many stops to exit or transfer.

Ignore the crowd!

Briefcase, backpacks etc has to go to the screening,
I almost got into trouble taking this photo.

I made it to ShaoYaoJu Station so far,
This is line 10 and 13

I transferred to Line 13 which is above ground,
This is before the crowd!

Let the crowd go first!
It's 8:47 AM by now

XiShiMen Station, a bit confusing here.

I thought I got lost here, the construction makes it difficult to find the entrance again.

I decided to wait for the next train, hoping for less crowd!
It takes just a few minutes - amazing!

Clocks are everywhere in the subway.

A = Northwest Exits
B = Northeast Exits
C = Southeast Exits
D = Southwest Exits

Knowing this will save you time of crossing streets!

Transfer takes some practice, but it's relatively easy.

I completed my journey

I am back at Dengshikou Subway Station exit "A".
By doing this, I will avoid crossing the street!
