Trains and Trams
Holland Trip

We are going to Rotterdam Blaak, one stop before Rotterdam Zuid (Rotterdam South)
This is Sprinter which stops in almost every station in between, knowing the final destination is very helpful.
You might be wondering what's hanging from my neck?

This is an OV-chipkaart, or an IC card you purchased for 7.50 Euro good for 5 years (non-refundable)
Then you can add Euro value (for example 50.00) for your travel in the Netherlands.
Just remember to TAP-IN and TAP-OUT

Note: For Intercity or Sprinter, when you TAP-IN, it deducts 20.00 Euro for the initial trip,
then when you arrive at the destination you TAP-OUT and it will adds back what you do not use.
For example Den Haag to Rotterdam, it costs 4.95 Euro, so when you are in Rotterdam and TAP-OUT,
it will add back 15.05 Euro back to the OV Chipkaart.

For the trams in the city, the TAP-IN is 4.00 Euro, for example if your trip costs 1.60 Euro,
then when you TAP-OUT it will refund 2.40 Euro back to your OV Chipkaart.

This is Den Haag Centraal.
The platforms for the tram to go "home" is on the elevated section or the second floor.
The Sprinter or Intercity platform is on the first floor, very efficient.
There are also trams on the street for various destination within the city limit that stop in front of the Centraal Station.
Remember the tram number and FINAL DESTINATION before you board !

Rush hour at Den Haag Centraal Station - 8:40 AM

I am glad to see an old tram and a new tram side by side.

Gare Du Nord, Paris
SNCF is France national train, Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais.
Recently on strike, we fear we could not make it to France due to this problem.

Eurostar is on the left, we are going back to Rotterdam using the Thalys on the right.
I am assuming these passengers are from Amsterdam Centraal or Brussel (Belgium)
Our train is at 12:19, but delays by 10 minutes

Gare Du Nord, what a mess!
The Metro number 4 is under construction, and prominent sign warning the passenger of FAUX TAXI (unauthorized taxi)
Glad to leave Paris, we ended up taking Uber to this station, very convenient indeed.

Rotterdam Centraal, Platform 8B, six more minutes to Den Haag (our homebase while we were in the Netherlands)
We are taking the Sprinter.

Amsterdam Centraal, we made a mistake taking the Sprinter (twice as long) O well, lesson learned!
Notice number 2?
Everything is second class, unless you have assigned seats, then it is FIRST CLASS.

We bought one day pass since we are ON-OFF all the time.
This is the end of Line 2 from Amsterdam Centraal, the most famous line for tourists.

For the tram, the TAP-IN and TAP-OUT is inside the tram.
For the Intercity and Sprinter is in the station before you board the train.

The Famous Line 2

It is chaotic to say the least.....

Trams, bicycles and pedestrians are all mixed.
I am not particularly impressed with Amsterdam, but I like smaller cities.

Back to Den Haag, no wonder I love the city.
Clean and beautiful !

An old tram is the city center of Den Haag

Grote Markt Station, Den Haag

Oops, I was in the wrong platform coming down from an elevator from the street.
Not a problem, take the escalator and down on the other side!
Remember the FINAL DESTINATION name is very important

I should take LOOSDUINEN as my final destination to go home, instead ZOETERMER back to Centraal Station.

I hope you enjoy the public transportation in the Netherlands..
